Match 1 – Rhos United v Rhos Utd

The game was played on a sunny yet cold day, with both teams bringing a decent sized squad with them.

I had looked at the league standing before the game and thought the game would be closely contested with the smallest of margains typically deciding the outcome but as you will read further in to the blog, that wasn’t to be the case today.

The game started in quick fashion with Y Glanau keeping hold of the ball and pressing through their midfield and forwards, something which the home team struggled to do.

The home team’s midfield seemed quite stretched and disjointed from the off which caused their defence to come under a lot of pressure, which they initially dealt with, but as with every football game, a defence can only hold out for so long.

I’m not going to go in to the individual goals on this brief report as it was nine days ago, but Y Glanau dominated the majority of the game and considering the league form of the two teams was quite simular of late, this was a suprise, but thats the magic of lower league football.

Looking back at the game, the key points I remember were the Y Glanau midfield set up in a diamond like 4 man shape, with Rhos Utd only having to two Cm’s to counter this, it didnt work, bravo the Y Glanau Manager for this move. I imagine this shape would trouble most teams in the league and I believe this tactical move won Y Glanau the game.

Lastly, The Y Glanau captain was the MoM in my eyes, he constantly retained the ball and looked for a piercing pass, which often found its mark, superb. Credit to the two central midfield players from Rhos United who put a good shift in and played very well, as did the Rhos Utd Right back and lone striker.
